Chinese Water Chestnut Summer Snacks

Fresh water chestnut has very slight sweetness which is very good in taking your thirst away in summer time. Traditionally, Chinese always thread them into a skewer and snack on it. However, it is not easy to find the fresh ones in the local stores. It doesn’t mean that we cannot enjoy this great traditional Chinese summer snack. Here is my track to bring its taste back.

Ingredients
2 Cans (15oz each) Whole Water Chestnuts (strained)
Some toothpicks

Seasonings
2 Cups Water
2 Cups Sugar

Thread one water chestnut to a toothpick
Repeat this step with the rest of the water chestnut
Transfer them to a big baking dish

Combine water and sugar together in a sauce pan
Melt the sugar at medium low heat
Pour the simple syrup into the baking dish of water chestnuts
Chill it in the fridge overnight and serve

TIPS
Add some flavor to your syrup, zest a lemon or lime. Put the zest into the warm syrup so that it can infuse the flavor all the way through

Serve 8+ people
